Feeling Confused About Investing? It’s fight or flight

The other day I was talking to a friend of mine about how people go about making financial decisions. One of the worst feelings you could possibly have as a consumer is that notion of being confused about where you're going to invest your money, what type of insurance you're going to buy, or just making a major purchase to your house. It seems the more information you get, the more confused you can become about what is the right decision. Most people say a confused mind says no.

What I actually think is a confused mind doesn't necessarily say no. It goes back to the basic emotions of fight or flight. Unfortunately, when you're confused about making a major financial decision, confusion leads to flight not fight. It is like being in a haunted house and something jumps out of the dark to scare you. Your first reaction is to pull back which may not necessarily be the best reaction. What I mean by that is that you don't actually spend the time to uncover what you need to do to fight the battle and make the very best decision that you can for yourself and your family. Instead what you end up doing is saying not now, maybe later, this isn't the right time, and you could potentially miss out on a great opportunity. This may involve major decisions like buying a home, looking at insurance, or something in the investment related arena. Most importantly, what you want to do is get yourself around somebody who is a consumer advocate for you. Someone who can help you sort through all of the details and make the right financial decision when you're feeling confused.
